Balconies for theChupinazo.

An elevated view over City Hall Square, to understand the opening of the festival from within and at a calmer pace.

The opening, from above

When Pamplona erupts,
everything begins.

On 6 July, at noon sharp, Pamplona opens San Fermín with the Chupinazo rocket launch from City Hall Square. Scarves fill the air, the crowd cries “Long live San Fermín!” in Spanish and Basque, and a collective energy brings the beginning of the festival together in a few short minutes.

From a balcony, you can watch the square, the rocket and the movement of the crowd from an elevated viewpoint. It is a way to follow the moment with more context and take time to enjoy the atmosphere beforehand too.

What happens, and what makes it special?A rocket, a crowded square and the gesture that opens the festival.

On 6 July, at noon sharp, the Chupinazo rocket launch opens San Fermín in City Hall Square. In just a few minutes, scarves, a shared cry and the energy of a transformed city come together.

It is a collective moment: understanding its rhythm and its place within the festival helps you enjoy it at a much calmer pace.

How can you experience it calmly and respectfully? The viewpoint and the atmosphere beforehand are part of the experience too.

The square draws a very large crowd. An elevated location lets you follow the ceremony, the atmosphere beforehand and the city’s reaction without being in the crowded streets.

If you would like to extend your trip, you can combine it with a cultural tour of Pamplona planned at your own pace.

What to plan beforehandYour dates, your group and the type of experience you want.
